ORIGINAL POSTER PRODUCTION ART. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. At Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara, CA. Original artwork for an Allman Brothers Band concert poster. Original, one-of-a-kind SIGNED item, by Randy Tuten. PLUS there is another poster for a Dave Mason concert on the back! In January 1969, after a year of being rejected as a poster artist by Chet Helms at the Avalon, 23-year-old Randy Tuten took his portfolio to the Fillmore where Bill Graham immediately hired him. Tuten was partial to traditional advertising styles, Graham was bound to receive his work as something considerably more akin to his own taste. Randy Tuten is the only poster artist to span 5 decades designing for The Fillmore. He remains a prolific poster designer today, and still a regular producer for Bill Graham Presents and other promoters. Tuten’s work has long been recognized for its seminal influence in the art of modern rock and roll, and has been featured in major museum exhibits as well as in several important book-length retrospective studies of rock art. Though his work shows the influences of the 60’s era, it has also evolved in recent years into an orderly and highly varied style of ornamental commercial art, often reminiscent of the advertising used in the deco era. The general consensus in the rock art community is that he has continued to grow as an artist and may be doing his best, most creative and exciting work at the present time. His posters are now a part of rock history, and for both curator and collector, will always be among the most desirable and telling artifacts of West Coast rock aesthetics. About the Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 in Macon, Georgia, United States and blended different strains of southern rock. And more into a flexible, jam-oriented rock and roll. Reflecting the emergence of the New South and setting the style for Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Marshall Tucker Band. And many other bands, the Allman Brothers Band also oddly or eerily, some would say had an unusual string of untimely deaths, a pattern similar to other Southern rockers. Through personal tragedy and turmoil, the group endured for decades. Reaching the peak of their commercial clout in the early 70s. They were highly respected and well received by legions of fans. Lead guitarist and band leader Duane Allman. Has been recognized as one of the greatest blues. Guitarists in history, according to numerous polls. Were living in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1960, and played in various bands until 1964, when they formed the Escorts, which became the Allman Joys. After their version of Willie Dixon. S Spoonful failed as a single, the two brothers and three other band members went to L. Where they signed with Liberty Records as the Hourglass. They recorded two albums of outside material (Hourglass, 1967, and Power of Love, 1968) before heading to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to record at Fame Studios. This is a one-of-a-kind production drawing by renowned rock poster artist Randy Tuten for a 1991 Allman Brothers Band concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl. An image of Robert E. Lee is surrounded by an art nouveau motif of lines and leaves. It is printed on translucent drafting paper, possibly vellum, which is taped onto a sheet of white paper, and printed. On the other side of the white paper is actually another poster! It is another R. Tuten poster for a Dave Mason concert with New Riders and Cate Bros. At the Frost Amphitheatre at Stanford on July 18th. Unfortunately the piece appears to have been exposed to moisture at some point and so the vellum is somewhat rippled. It is most pronounced in the lower left area. The drawing was done with pencil so luckily there is no running ink and very little if any staining, but the wrinkles/ripples are fairly pronounced, so the price has been reduced accordingly. It is SIGNED by Randy Tuten. Please check out the photos, all 11 are of the actual item. It’s a very cool, very rare, signed item and provides a bit of insight into the poster production process! The Dave Mason poster on the back is an added bonus! Date: October 12, 1991. Performers: The Allman Brothers Band & Little Feat. Dimensions: Approximately 11″x17″. Check out my other items.
