Jimi Hendrix Experience 1969 Waikiki Shell Honolulu Concert Poster (USA)

The concert on the 30. May was unfortunately cut short after only 30 minutes due to technical problems with the groups amplifiers. Although not advertised on the poster, the group also performed on the 1. June at the venue. It measures 35.5cm x 48cm (14 inches x 19 inches). He poster has been trimmed along the top and bottom edges and there is tape along each edge. There is some mottling and discolouration to sections along the edges. There is creasing to the poster and some tears at the edges which has been repaired on the reverse with tape, the largest of which is at the top left corner and measures 4.5cm. There is a 1.7cm tear to the right edge on the first layer of card. There is some tape residue and some scuffing on the reverse. The condition is good. The first item is charged at the normal rate. Our Grading System Explained. Mint = As new. Near Mint = Almost like new with one or two very minor flaws. Excellent = Minor wear yet looks attractive and is perfectly usable. Very Good = Some wear and tear but overall presentable and usable. Good = Apparent wear and tear but with obvious deterioration of the condition. Poor = Extremely worn. A plus or minus after the grading indicates that the condition is marginally higher or lower than the stated grade. An original card concert poster for the Jimi Hendrix Experience performance at the Cobo Arena, Detroit on the 2. It features drawings of each member with a colourful pattern surrounding them and details of the concert below. The display measures 33.5cm x 54.7cm (13.1 inches x 21.5 inches). There are pin holes to each corner with some staining to the bottom edge. There is creasing along the edges and there is some writing towards the bottom left corner. The condition is very good minus. Jimi Hendrix Experience 1st Print 1968 Bill Graham Fillmore East Concert Poster

Offered here is an actual original first printing of one of the most historic psychedelic rock posters in music history. This is the first printing of the graphic advertising poster that was used to promote a pair of rock music and light shows featuring the Jimi Hendrix Experience & Sly & The Family Stone (who was not listed on the poster, but performed both shows) and the Joshua Light Show. These shows took place on May 10, 1968 at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East in New York City. This famous poster has a psychedelic theme well-suited for the band led by the musician Jimi Hendrix, arguably the most legendary electric guitarist in rock and roll history. On May 10, 1968 two shows were held at the Fillmore East, rock promoter Bill Graham’s concert venue in Manhattan, during the absolute peak of Hendrix’s meteoric albeit short-lived performing career. The unique yet classic artistic rendering of Jimi Hendrix image was created by artist David Byrd. Byrd remains one of the most respected and celebrated poster artists in rock history. This poster is the 7th image in the Bill Graham Fillmore East series, and is prominently featured in the iconic music poster book “The Art Of Rock” as Plate 2.90. As the exclusive designer for the Fillmore East, Byrd produced 11 posters for Bill Graham between 1968-71. With his architectural training, powerful linework and sense of dimension and balance, Byrd said his understanding of symmetry… Led [me] right up to Art Nouveau. Add to that my LSD experiences, and it all connected up somehow. Byrd’s credits include concert poster designs for Jimi Hendrix, the Who, the Grateful Dead, movie posters for Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar, posters for The Pasadena Playhouse productions, cover art for TV Guide, and work for Warner Bros. David Byrd used a drop-bow compass to draw the little circles, and he labored to get Hendrixs hair Just right. Hendrix was at the height of his career in mid-1968, and he did two shows for the one-night-only concert. Sly & the Family Stone, not mentioned on the poster, was the second band. Just starting to get airplay, Sly was relatively unknown and was heckled by a crowd that couldnt have cared less who was opening up for Hendrix. A few internet quotes about the 1968 concerts that this first printing of this promotional poster heralded. Mid 1968 is arguably the best possible time to have caught Hendrix in concert. He was playing at his most joyful and carefree, and the trappings of success haven’t yet taken a toll on his mental health. He was also developing at an incredible rate during this time and beginning work on the Electric Ladyland album, which would find him experimenting more than ever before. This set catches Hendrix in a very comfortable and playful mood and engaging in humorous dialogue with the audience. At one point, someone yells Take off your hat, Jimi! ” to which he replies, “I’ll take off my hat if you take off your pants! Amidst cheers and laughter from the audience. 1968 Jimi Hendrix Experience Hand Painted Concert Poster Brown University Ri

1968 JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE HAND PAINTED CONCERT POSTER BROWN UNIVERSITY RI! This is a vintage original Jimi Hendrix hand painted poster on psychedelic embossed paper (possibly handmade paper) and mounted on board for his show at the Marvel Auditorium (gym) at Brown University held on March 8th, 1968. Accounts from the show have said it was so small that their ears were ringing for weeks and Jimi also set his guitar on fire at the end of the show! This is an unbelievable piece of Rock and Roll History from the legendary performer and greatest guitarist of all time – Jimi Hendrix. This poster is most likely the original artwork that was then screen printed and used around campus to promote the concert and sell tickets. WOW – signed on the back by Cheryl Iaciofano (possibly the artist or family member of the artist and most likely a student at the University at the time) with other sketches for rock groups the Beatles and The Grateful Dead (see reverse photo). The original poster would make a cherished addition to any original poster or vintage rock and roll art collection – museum quality. Orignal 1968 JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE Cobo Hall Concert Handbill / Flyer

This is an authentic original (printed BEFORE the concert) handbill / flyer advertising. THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE. Appearing November 30, 1968 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. The handbill does double duty as a radio survey for station WKNR for the week of November 14 and lists the top songs of that week. Even though it is also a radio survey it lists ticket prices and ticket outlets so I consider it to be a bona fide concert handbill! The reverse side has an advertisement for GLEN CAMPBELL albums on Capitol Records. It measures 4 x 7 1/2 inches and is in VG+++ condition with minor tonig to the top edge.
