Vintage Bluegrass Poster from Ontelaunee Park, Pa 1st Annual Grassroots Music Festival, June 4 to 6 1971 with an added Conway Twitty show written in marker at the top. Performers include: Mac Wiseman, Jimmy Martin, Ralph Stanley, Country Gentlemen, J. Mainer, Wiley and Zeke Morris, Del McCoury and the New Deal String Band. Boxing Style Silk Screen Poster measures 22″ x 28″ on coated card stock (front only) and is in red and black poster ink. This type of poster was made quickly and crudely, probably from one screen with one ink pull – the red ink blends into the black at the top of one of the pictures. The poster is in very good condition. It has a small tear on the left edge, some moisture stains on the left edge and top right, some rain marks on the Conway Twitty inscription, and a few staple punctures. CONWAY TWITTY: This poster stands out because of the addition of Twitty’s show in 1971. Searchable personal accounts indicate that he was on the bill in 1972, probably officially. At the beginning of 1971, he collaborated with Loretta Lynn on several duets – by the summer of 1971 these recordings would have gained in popularity, convincing the festival organizers to include him (either by popular demand or by good business acumen). Six Months later, he would receive three Country Music Association Awards. This poster, as well as being rare for the poster itself, was used right in the middle of that important year for Twitty, and reading the informal inscription on the top announcing his unplanned appearance is like looking right into the lens of Country Music history!
