Original 1984 large-format concert poster for one of the most historically documented shows in LA hardcore history – “Der Fuhrer’s Birthday / Good Friday” – presented by Selfish Productions. April 20, 1984 – Stardust Ballroom, 5612 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, CA. This show was broadcast live on KMET-FM and the Circle Jerks performance has since been officially released as a professionally remastered live album – making this one of the most historically verified and documented LA hardcore shows on record. The concept is pure politically confrontational punk genius – staging a massive anti-fascist benefit show deliberately on Hitler’s birthday, April 20. The poster features repeated anti-Nazi imagery – swastikas and Iron Crosses crossed out in red circles – with the repeated slogan Bad Ideas Die Hard. ” The juxtaposition of “Der Fuhrer’s Birthday” with “Good Friday is exactly the kind of subversive, intelligent provocation that defined the best of LA hardcore. Artwork by Kunst: Messer’84 – credited on the reverse. Circle Jerks and Social Distortion are both LA hardcore legends with massive worldwide followings. Time to sell my rock n roll ephemera collection of flyers, posters, stickers, pins, and etc. Most items are from the Los Angeles area as that was where I lived during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. I then lived in San Francisco for about 27 years. The last five years I have lived in Kawasaki, Japan. I also have been on tours around the US/Japan/UK collecting music related items here and there. And I did some trading of (mostly) cassette tapes, records, flyers, posters, and etc. With others around the world during the 80’s. These items are as is. Please see pictures for actual condition. Flyers/Posters may have tape marks, pin holes, stains, and or wear and tear and many were folded at one time. Some are nearly perfect. Most flyers have been stored flat for 30+ years. A lithograph is a very high quality machine printed image made by using a 4 color separation process much like how the covers of any color magazine is printed. A serigraph is a silk screened image. With a serigraph the original oil painting is scanned and separated digitally into each and every color found in the original. A separate silk screen is created for each and every color that was scanned. There are usually from 80 to 130 individual colors in the majority of some serigraphs. Each silk screen is precisely placed over the serigraph paper, and then by hand squeegee, paint for a specific color is applied. This single application of one paint color must then dry for at least 24 to 48 hours before the next color paint can be applied. It can take a serigraph up to 6 months to produce 1 run of as many as 500 serigraphs of the same image. Serigraphs are also produced in much smaller numbers than lithographs, and they are as costly to produce, and as close to the actual original painting as you can possibly get.
