Scarce and highly collectible large original first printing concert poster advertising American singer-songwriter and guitarist Richie Havens at the Circus Krone in Munich [Germany] on Wednesday, 31st May, 1972, presented by Lippmann+Rau in cooperation with Stimmen der Welt. Havens was touring Europe in support of. The Great Blind Degree. His eighth album, produced by Havens himself and released by Stormy Forest Records. Famous for being the opening act at Woodstock, Havens died of a heart attack at his home in Jersey City on 22nd April, 2013, at the age of 72. Pursuant to Havens’ request, his ashes were scattered from the air over the original site of the Woodstock Festival, in a ceremony held on 18th August, 2013, the 44th anniversary of the festival’s last day. The poster features artwork by noted German graphic artist Günther Kieser from a photo by Hans Hartmann, with their imprints to the lower right side border. The poster has been authentically signed by both Günther Kieser and concert impressario Fritz Rau. The poster measures 60.0 x 83.9 cm (23.6″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition, ready to frame. Exceedingly scarce and highly collectible original vintage first printin g concert poster advertising “Black Nativity” at the Deutsches Museum in Munich [Germany] on Wednesday, 11th November, 1964, presented by Eva Maze and La Société Philharmonique de Bruxelles. The show in Munich was part of the second European tour, having made its European debut at the Spoleto Festival in Italy in August 1962. Ased on a script by Langston Hughes originally titled. Wasn’t That a Mighty Day. With music arranged by the show’s stars, Marion Williams and Alex Bradford, the show used two gospel singing groups: The Stars of Faith and the Bradford Singers. It was directed by Vinnete Carroll and opened for a limited run on Broadway at the 41st St. Theatre in December 1961 to critical and popular acclaim. It was one of the first plays written by an African American to be staged there. The promoter of the Munich show, Eva Maze, was one of the most successful theatrical impresarios in Europe at the time, with a career spanning more than 40 years. Printed by Blümlein & Co. Frankfurt, with the printer’s imprint to the bottom right corner. The poster measures 59.0 x 83.9 cm approx. 23.2″ by 33″ inches and is printed in blue and black inks on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock.
