The Sex Pistols 1976 Kings Hall Concert Poster (UK)

An original concert poster from the Kings Hall, Derby. The poster is advertising a concert by The Sex Pistols on the 4th December 1976. The support acts for the concert were The Clash, The Damned and Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers. This concert never actually took place. It was cancelled by Derby City Council following The Sex Pistols’ refusal to audition in front of their councillors, resulting in them banning that evening’s show. On December 1st The Sex Pistols appeared on Bill Grundy’s’Today’ programme. Two days later, on Friday 3rd, their Anarchy UK Tour was due to kick-off at Norwich for a 19-date concert tour, supported throughout by The Damned, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers and The Clash. Following the’Filth and the Fury’ media backlash caused after their appearance on the now infamous’Today’ programme, most of the dates were cancelled or banned. Only three dates on the whole tour actually took place, eventually kicking off at Leeds Polytechnic on the 6th and then playing Manchester’s Electric Circus on the 9th with the Buzzcocks, finally ending at Plymouth’s Woods Centre on the 21st. This particular poster came direct from the collection of the person who designed the poster and many of the other posters used at the Kings Hall Derby around this time. It measures 51cm x 76.5cm (20 inches x 30 inches). The poster has some light creasing and a couple of areas of discolouration. The condition is very good plus. Mint = As new. Near mint = Almost like new with one or two very minor flaws. Excellent = Minor wear yet looks attractive and is perfectly usable. Very Good = Some wear and tear but overall presentable and usable. Good = Apparent wear and tear but with obvious deterioration of the condition. Poor = Extremely worn. A plus or minus after the grading indicates that the condition is marginally higher or lower than the stated grade. The Sex Pistols Poster Germany European Concert ORIGINAL, Not a Re-Print

Original – NOT a re-print! (see above condition description). This concert was originally planned to be in Schärttner Halle in Hanau, the city few hundred away from Frankfurt, but was rescheduled to Frankfurt’s city-come-suburbia Offenbach. Only two bands played this time — Sisters were warming up for Sex Pistols, their last warm-up job for several years. The Mercy boys weren’t even mentioned on the ticket and, apparently, in the promotion (their role was toned down to “special guests” — it’s possible that the organizers weren’t sure who will support Pistols until very late). The prehistory of this gig is outlined in the Hamburg. Reportedly, only about 300 people were watching this gig, mostly due to bad as ever promotion. This is easily heard in bootlegs, where in-between songs noise is suspiciously low. Sid Vicious died of a heroin overdose in February 1979. In 1996, Rotten, Jones, Cook and Matlock reunited for the Filthy Lucre Tour. Since 2002, they have staged further reunion shows and tours. On 24 February 2006, the Sex Pistolsthe four original members plus Viciouswere inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But they refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum “a piss stain”. Many international promoters use the poster style most notably associated with Germany. German concert posters are 23″ x 33″ and are designed for advertising pillars (kiosks) or subway posting.
