BOB DYLAN GOES ELECTRIC Original 1965 Newport Concert Handbill with BONUS PASS

This is an authentic original two-sided (printed BEFORE the concert) handbill / flyer / ticket order form advertising. The NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL 1965 – The famous folk festival included Bob Dylan’s controversial infamous first-ever electric performance. He had made his solo acoustic debut at this festival the year before (see my other listings for the handbill for that one) at this world famous festival. SPECIAL BONUS – Newport Folk Festival’65 Parking Pass!! Headliners at this festival were. BOB DYLAN, JOAN BAEZ, Maybelle Carter, Reverend Gary Davis, Son House, Mississippi John Hurt, Memphis Slim & Willie Dixon, PETER Paul & Mary, Pete Seeger, Lightning Hopkins, Ian & Sylvia, Bill Monroe & The Bluegrass Boys, Odetta, Byron Berline, Chambers Brothers, Mimi and Dick Farina, Gordon Lightfoot, and many, many more. The festival took place July 22-25, 1964 at Freebody Park in Newport, Rhode Island. This is an extraordinarily rare item! It is a two-side 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet that was folded in thirds vertically to be a trifold brochure and ticket order form that was mailed to their mailing list (this one is unmailed). It is in VG+ condition, having a small stain on the bottom edge of the center one of the three panels (see photos), one single pin hole in one corner, very light edge wear, lightly bumped corners it is 54 years old! But is otherwise very clean and bright with no writing, other stains, holes or other significant damage or wear. The ticket order form has NOT been filled in and is completely intact. This is the only 1965 handbill for this festival that I have ever seen! And as a special bonus item – Newport Folk Festival’65 Parking Pass. In VG+ condition with a torn corner and some wear to two of the other corners. I beleive this is how they marked that you had entered the parking lot as the pass was good for all 4 days of the festival. Please see photos for accurate image report. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY HISTORIC AND IMPORTANT ITEM FOR BOTH BOB DYLAN & JANIS JOPLIN and FOLK MUSIC COLLECTORS!! This is an authentic original (printed BEFORE the concert) program from the FIRST ANNUAL MONTEREY FOLK FESTIVAL – May 17-18-19, 1963. This was Bob Dylan’s first-ever West Coast concert appearance! It is also documented that four years before joining Big Brother and The Holding Company and setting the world on fire with her Monterey Pop Festival performances that on May 18, 1963 Janis entered the Saturday afternoon “Folk Talent Show & Sing” and won three singing contests that afternoon! SUPER Rare THE BEATLES Streisand Baez Dylan 1964 Forest Hills Concert Handbill

This is a guaranteed original (printed before the concert) oversize concert handbill / ticket order advertising the. 1964 FOREST HILLS MUSIC FESTIVAL. This season featured 6 concerts. BARBARA STREISAND – July 12, 1964. Trini Lopez, Count Basie, extra added attraction Woody Allen – July 25. Harry Belafonte and Miriam Makeba – July 31, August 1 and 2. JOAN BAEZ (with unannounced special guest BOB DYLAN) – August 8. Johnny Mathis – August 15. At the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium in Queens, New York. Where else would you ever find a handbill that advertises Barbra Streisand, Joan Baez with Bob Dylan, AND The Beatles! During her second set Joan introduced “Bobby Dylan” who joined her for three songs: Mama You’ve Been On My Mind, It Ain’t Me Babe, and With God On Our Side. She also performed some of his songs by herself before bringing him out. This extraordinarily rare handbill the only copy known to exist! Measures 9 3/8 x 7 7/8 inches and is in VG condition! It has a number of condition issues but is still very presentable and so historic! It is missing the lower left corner and also a couple of small edge chips. There are several folds and creases and there a few small tears, as well, that extend from folds. About an inch long tear in the lower left from the bottom edge up to the bottom of the image of the stadium. There is also a small tear from the chip missing in the lower right corner. There is age discoloration toning on the right third of the handbill and some aging on the right edge, too. It looks like there may be some trimming to the edges and there is a vertical fold, as well. I have posted two hi resolution scans so you can see it all for yourself. THIS IS AN ULTRA RARE ITEM! This is a guaranteed original (printed before the concert) concert program featuring a series of six amazing concerts. FOREST HILLS MUSIC FESTIVAL. BARBRA STREISAND – July 12, 1964. Johnny Mathis – August 15. THE BEATLES – August 28 & 29. All appearing as part of the 1964 Forest Hills Music Festival, an annual series of concerts in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City. They would produce a program for each year and for the particular concert you were attending there would be a special centerfold page inserted (usually stapled) into the middle of the program. That’s how you know which concert the program was from. The 1964 program, becuase it was the year that The Beatles played this festival is the rarest of the FOrest Hills Festival programs. In 40+ years or searching I have only ever found one copy that had The Beatles as the special insert page. This program, which I have owned since I obtained it from the person that attended this show is from the August 8, 1964 Joan Baez show where Joan brought out her special guest (and boyfriend at the time) BOB DYLAN to perform with her and they performed: 1 Mama, You Been On My Mind; 2 It Ain’t Me, Babe; and 3 With God On Our Side. It is well documented. An exceptionally rare item, indeed. I have only seen a handful of the program from this year and, As I said, only one copy with The Beatles center insert, and only this one copy with the Joan Baez center insert. Very, very rare, especially in this condition! It is completely intact with no splits, no staple rust, as is common on programs of this era, no tears, folded pages, writing or significant waer other than some minor foxing on the front and back cover (visible in my photos) and some foxing on the page preceding and after the center insert, as well. 14 x 21 boxing style poster. Expensive copper metallic ink used on poster… Tried to capture it in the close-up photo, but it won’t show up. Veteran rock critic Kevin O’Hare lists this as one of his “25 most unforgettable concerts”. Bob Dylan, Van Morrison Jan. 23, 1998, Fleet Center, Boston Seeing Bob Dylan anytime during the past 20 years has been a bit of a gamble but the bard was truly inspired on this occasion, undoubtedly because he was sharing the double bill with his Irish friend, Van Morrison. It was a stellar evening, marked by Dylan gems like Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, Absolutely Sweet Marie and Simple Twist of Fate. Morrison too, was at his best, doing songs such as a slow-building show-stopper The Healing Game, and a house-shaking, horn-thundering Domino.
