At the Ogden Theatre, Denver, CO. Limited Edition Poster by Lindsey Kuhn. Lindsey Kuhn – Is there a cerebral connection somewhere between art and skateboarding? For some people skating is an art, for others art has nothing to do with skating. Then there are those who combine these two things to form a lifestyle. Lindsey Kuhn has found a way to turn his passions into career, and has been both skating and creating art for over three decades. He was born in Evanston, IL, but grew up on the coast of Mississippi where the now infamous Swamp ramp(s) stood for over ten years. In 1983 he began screen-printing t-shirts primarily to pay for maintenance of the massive ramp. Those simple t-shirts have ballooned into an internationally known company called SWAMP. Today Lindsey is best known for his silk-screened rock posters for hundreds of bands like The Melvins, Tool, Atmosphere, AC/DC and more. Swamp also does custom printing and publishes work for other artists. Lindsey moved to Austin, TX in 1990 and within a year started printing posters for Southern Californias Limagerie Gallery. Limagerie set up a small flat press shop in Austin produce rock posters for Frank Kozik, as well as, Serigraphs for other artists they represented. Such as Robert Crumb, Ed Roth, Robert Williams, Joe Colman, and others. While printing all this great art, Lindsey realized there was a demand for what he had been doing for years and seized the opportunity to learn from these lowbrow masters helping to revive the lost art of the Rock Poster. He has continued to create posters for over 20 years, keeping his D. Ethic alive by printing his own work as well as other artists from around the world through his print company called SWAMP, which is now located in Denver, CO. Social Distortion is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. Prince and the Revolution 1986 Parade Tour Belgium Original Concert Poster
On April 21st, the world lost one of the greatest performers of all-time, Prince. His music touched so many fans and inspired uncountable artists. His music spanned decades, with many of his hits coming around the time of this Belgium show on August 27th, 1986. In 1984, he released his hit movie and album Purple Rain ; in 1985, Raspberry Beret hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100; and in 1986, his album Parade included Kiss, which would go to No. After his Hit n Run Parade Tour , he disbanded The Revolution and went back to solo work. So this concert happened in an era which most people believe included Princes best work. This original poster, measuring 27 5/8 x 39 1/4, is on thin paper that has been stored rolled. The poster is in outstanding shape, with only 1-2 very light roll-creases, which would flatten out if stored flat with some heavy objects weighing it down. Otherwise, there are no rips or tears in the thin paper. This is a rare Prince poster, for a recently passed legend. Llectors seeking truly vintage posters there is no other source that can match the breadth and authenticity of the collection at Wolfgang’s Vault. To see our other auctions! After recording two hits, A Fool in Love and Its Gonna Work Out Fine, the infamous duo of Ike & Tina Turner struggled to hit their stride and went back to touring the chitlin circuit. By this December, 1964 show at the Continental Club in Oakland, CA, The Ike & Tina Turner Revue was starting to hit their musical stride. Soon after, they were opening for the Rolling Stones on their U. The group would continue to record, tour, and fight, seeing great success in the early 1970s. This oversize poster, measuring 17 1/8 x 28 3/8, is on cardboard similar to other boxing style posters. The colors are very vibrant, but there has been some restoration work done to the front of the poster. The poster still displays very well and would be a prized piece in any collection. Was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas. The group was formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell along with vocalist Terry Glaze. Bassist Rex Brown joined the band the following year, replacing the original unofficial bass guitarist Tommy D. Having started as a glam metal band, Pantera released four albums during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in 1987. With its fifth album, 1990’s Cowboys from Hell, Pantera introduced a groove metal sound. The sixth album, 1992’s Vulgar Display of Power, exhibited even heavier sound. Far Beyond Driven debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Is an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. This poster is RARE and hard to find. 17″ x 25″ and is on cardboard stock paper. It now comes with a SECOND poster, an alternate version printed on thin paper with a sticker covering the part that originally advertised the free show on April 18th, instead now it advertises the Panic In The Streets home video. So you get two very cool WSP posters! If you are interested in just the thin poster we have that one listed on its own as well. WSP : 27 years ago this week, a singer everyone called J. A bass-playing future journalism school dropout and a guitarist nicknamed Panic for his bouts with anxiety went looking for a drummer for their next gig. After striking out with the usual suspects around Athens, Georgia, the three friends made an eleventh-hour call to a high-school band mate of the guitar player living in Atlanta, thinking he might still have his kit handy. A few days later, Todd Nance rolled up to the house at 320 King Avenue shared by John Bell, Michael Houser and David Schools in an old, beat-up white Maverick, his drums crammed into the back. After a night of rehearsing, the new quartet hopped onstage together for the first time the next day at the old Mad Hatter Ballroom to play a short set that opened with the Buffalo Springfield classic For What Its Worth. Widespread Panic was born. Within the year, Domingo Sunny Ortiz, a drummer new in town from Austin, Texas, began turning up at their regular Monday night gigs at the Uptown Lounge and never left. As weekly gigs morphed into regional tours, the band began to forge a sound unto themselves, a combination of Housers unorthodox guitar playing, Bells coarse growl, Nances rock-steady drumming, Schools lead bass playing, Ortizs multi-textured percussion coupled with a collective commitment to playing original songs from the outset and a willingness to walk the improvisational high wire night after night. Landslide Records came calling and Space Wrangler, Widespread Panics debut album, dropped in September 1988, the first copies of which were hand-delivered to the band by Col. Bruce Hampton, an area shaman, bandleader and early mentor. Former Dixie Dreg T Lavitz manned the keyboards for the bands self-titled follow-up released on Capricorn Records in July 1991, but it really wasnt until John Jojo Hermann a native New Yorker-turned-Mississippian equally snapped by the likes of Professor Longhair and Terry Adams – claimed the chair the following spring that the band felt like a true ensemble. With a new songwriter, vocalist and worthy onstage foil in Hermann in the fold, the bands lineup was set. The celebration for their first live album, Light Fuse, Get Away, drew more than 100,000 fans for a free show in downtown Athens and is still considered one of the largest CD-release parties in music history. By 2002, the band was one of Americas best and most sought-after rock acts, but rock n roll fairytales inevitably take a tragic turn. Michael Houser, Panics founding guitarist and inscrutable core, developed pancreatic cancer. The guitarist remained rooted at stage right until a few weeks before his death, delivering a spine-tingling, tear-jerking performance for the bands headlining spot at the inaugural Bonnaroo Arts & Music Festival. Eight weeks after leaving the road, Houser was gone, taking with him a unique musical signature that fans affectionately dubbed The Lingering Lead. An era was over. It wasnt until the summer of 2006 – when John Bell placed a call to an old friend to see if he might be interested in joining the band – that the wheels were put in motion for a new chapter in Widespread Panics history to begin. Jimmy Herring was no stranger to Widespread Panic when he got the call inviting him to join the band. A veteran of the Atlanta music scene, Jimmy first crossed paths with the band in the late 80s as the lead guitarist for Colonel Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. From the first flurry of notes at his very first show with the band the opening night of a four-show run at Radio City Music Hall that kicked off the bands 2006 fall tour Herring has re-energized Widespread Panic in the best way possible: by restoring a signature guitar sound to their music, returning a sense of balance to their ensemble and enabling the band to continue to incite, amaze and move people closer to joy. Nothing gold can stay, and no band understands that lesson better than Widespread Panic, but with Herring now in his seventh year in the fold and the band fresh off an ten-month hiatus and ready to roll, theres a palpable sense of renewed purpose and commitment and a rejuvenated enthusiasm within the band. That vibe the feeling that anything can and may happen is back with Widespread Panic. And it feels good.
