An original cardboard window card advertising Motown’s great Marvin Gaye performing at the National Orange Auditorium in San Bernardino, California on Thursday evening, August 11, 1977. No opening act is given, and tickets were apparently available only through the box office and Ticketron. This poster somewhat resembles what the Tilghman company would have printed out of Oakland, but instead it was done by Sentury Printing in the same city. Uses a’split-fountain’ inking technique which has the top half of the poster printed in black, and then morphing down into red for the bottom half. Measures a little under 17″ x 22″ and grades to Very Good condition. Close examination shows copious horizontal stress creases throughout the poster, but they don’t break color and they’re barely visible on the back. Gaye intervened in a fight between his parents on the afternoon of April 1, 1984, in the family house in the West Adams district of Los Angeles, and he became involved in a physical altercation with his father, Marvin Gay Sr. Who shot Gaye twice, once in the chest, piercing his heart, and then into Gaye’s shoulder.
