VH1 HONORS CONCERT PRINCE, STEVIE WONDER MORE APRIL 11 1999 POSTER 50x26
VH1 HONORS CONCERT – PRINCE – STEVIE WONDER – SHERYL CROW – CELINE DION – JAMES TAYLOR – THE WALLFLOWERS – STEVE WINWOOD & MORE – APRIL 11, 1999 – POSTER – 50″x26″. HEAVY PLASTIC – RARE!!! Who else could turn the phrase “music education in the schools” into a funky call-and-response chant? That’s what Wonder did–twice–in appearances during the taping of the fourth annual VH1 Honors concert Thursday at the Universal Amphitheatre, an annual benefit dedicated this year to music education. The show, which was scheduled to premiere on the cable music channel Friday, offered a strong lineup of chart-toppers past (Wonder, James Taylor, Steve Winwood) and present (Sheryl Crow, the Wallflowers) and one eternal mystery (the artist still known to everyone but him, his family and staff as Prince). And the evening lived up to the channel’s “music first” motto–with speech-making mercifully short and succinct. Presenters ranging from Alice Cooper to Richard Dreyfuss pleaded the case for music education as an essential element of a healthy societ. The Hello People, Original Placard, Vintage, 1967/68 Concert. NOT A POSTER, RARE. In the 1970s the Hello People became Todd Rundgren’s backup band and backup singers! This is a what I call a “placard”. It is listed under “Posters” because there is no category for placards. It’s not a poster but could be used as one. Placards were used for advertising a single event and are usually made of heavy paper, and/or paper-faced cardboard, or occasionally regular paper. Most were stapled/nailed to wooden utility poles but sometimes displayed in record store, or shop windows. With the advent of technology placards aren’t used so much anymore. This placard had been displayed in a store window, probably Man Talk, a now out of business CLE clothing store, and has some slight condition issues but is in amazing condition for something 54 or 55 years old. LaCave, the venue they performed in was one of Cleveland’s first and premier concert clubs for 60s music, 1961 to 1969. Placards are very rare unlike a poster they were used to advertise a single event and then left to disintegrate in the weather or were discarded. This measures 22″ high x 14″ wide. This item is in the category “Art\Art Posters”. The seller is “pe6132″ and is located in this country: US.
