Exceedingly scarce and highly collectible original vintage first printin g concert poster advertising “Black Nativity” at the Deutsches Museum in Munich [Germany] on Wednesday, 11th November, 1964, presented by Eva Maze and La Société Philharmonique de Bruxelles. The show in Munich was part of the second European tour, having made its European debut at the Spoleto Festival in Italy in August 1962. Ased on a script by Langston Hughes originally titled. Wasn’t That a Mighty Day. With music arranged by the show’s stars, Marion Williams and Alex Bradford, the show used two gospel singing groups: The Stars of Faith and the Bradford Singers. It was directed by Vinnete Carroll and opened for a limited run on Broadway at the 41st St. Theatre in December 1961 to critical and popular acclaim. It was one of the first plays written by an African American to be staged there. The promoter of the Munich show, Eva Maze, was one of the most successful theatrical impresarios in Europe at the time, with a career spanning more than 40 years. Printed by Blümlein & Co. Frankfurt, with the printer’s imprint to the bottom right corner. The poster measures 59.0 x 83.9 cm approx. 23.2″ by 33″ inches and is printed in blue and black inks on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. There is a tack hole to each corner and slight paper loss to the top right corner. Else in remarkably near excellent unfolded condition.
