Description: An incredible collection of 1960s Bay Area concert posters/handbill. The first is an original concert poster for the June 1967 grand opening of the notorious San Francisco venue The Western Front. The concerts advertised took place between June 28th and July 2nd, and featured the following bands: Big Brother & the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Siegal-Schwall Blues Band, the Charlatans, Congress of Wonders and Bill Ham’s Light Sound Dimension. This is a 1st Printing, and measures 14″ x 20″. Designed by Greg Irons. In very good condition. Age toning to edges and light wear to corners. Mild foxing to lower right border. The second is an original poster for the first live concert of The Band in April, 1969. Two other acts performed: Sons of Champlin and Ace of Cups. Designed by Randy Tuten. This is a 1st printing, and measures 13.5″ x 21″. Printed on glossy index stock. Mild age toning and slight wear to corners. The third is a rare original 1968 concert poster for a performance featuring Ace of Cups, Allmen Joy and The Fugs. Created by famed poster designer Jaxon, and promoted by Family Dog. The dates for the performance were April 12 – 14, 1968 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. Minor wear to corners. The fourth item is an original 8″ x 11″ handbill for a 1966 concert headlined by Jefferson Airplane, with supporting acts Great Society, Bill Ham and Society by Artists. BO DIDDLEY Original 1960s Concert Poster The Palace, San Diego CA

Rare Vintage 1960’s Concert Poster – Original. BAND: Bo Diddley & His Band, and Glory (local band). VENUE: The Palace, Pacific Coast Hwy, San Diego, CA. CONDITION: Near Mint – minor loss of ink (printing error) at edges. SIZE: 14.25″ X 22.5″ (approximate). Shiny Card Stock, White. There is minor ink loss at a few point around the edge and 2 slightly rounded corners. Conservatively, 9 out of 10. I obtained these from the estate of poster Artist Donald Kay. Kay produced posters and handbills promoting show for The Palace and KPRI Radio, as well as James C Pagni Production shows at the Community Concourse in SD. Donald Kay is best known for his work in The Art Of Rock, plates 3.11, 3.94 & 3.95. Historic side note. Regularly attracted standing-room-only crowds at such favorite San Diego rock haunts of the time as the Palace, Cinnamon Cinder and Funky Quarters. The band was founded by singer-guitarist Jerry Raney, now with the Beat Farmers. Other original members include drummer Jack Pinney, now with the Jacks, and bassist Greg Willis. Before joining Glory, Pinney and Willis had been with the Palace Pages, who later relocated to Los Angeles and became Iron Butterfly. Donald Kay is credited with introducing psychedelic concert poster art to San Diego in the 1960s. In the 1970s to 2015, Don was a renowned visionary artist, who works have been exhibited in galleries and art shows from San Francisco to New York. His original paintings can be found in the collection of John Hopkins University. Don Kays posters can be found in The Art of Rock – Poster from Presley to Punk, Plates 3.11, 3.94 & 3.95. THIS, is the original poster for Miles Davis in Seattle in the mid sixties, on a very short, infamous APRIL 1967 SEXTET tour… That band never toured again! Insanely rare to find ANY ORIGINAL Miles poster from this era! You can see in the pictures that these were posted on the walls of the clubThanks Dizzy! And in the front marquee, and then torn town for the next artist. HAND painted and also LITHO screened on heavy board in quantities of less than 25 according to the club owner… !! Truly ONE OF A KIND!! Only TWO were salvaged by the owner… Some water damage on the back, and a slight crease/bend on the font bottom corner but otherwise PRIME! . 1960’s Ray Charles French concert poster (Salle Vallier, Marseille). Almost certainly early 1960’s. Ray Charles performed with the Raelets & the Ray Charles Orchestra at the Theatre du Gymnase, Salle Vallier. The poster measures 22 x 30 inches and shows signs of having been displayed. There’s a small piece of tape across each corner. The poster has been folded. Down the middle and has a. Crease across the lower left corner. There’s also some minor surface paper loss to the back, which isn’t visible from the front of the poster. We acquired this directly from France. Any questions please ask.
