MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL MINT CONCERT POSTER Jimi Hendrix THE WHO Grateful Dead Etc
A very rare original concert poster advertising the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival, in unused virtually mint condition. There is a printing imperfection, a tiny black dot in the top left corner, and otherwise this is without issues. Monterey Pop’ was arguably the most important music festival ever, featuring the first US appearance of Jimi Hendrix, as well as Janis Joplin with Big Brother, the Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and so many more. This foil poster, designed by Tom Wilkes, is extremely delicate and almost never found in such exceptional condition. By far the best example we’ve seen. This is the smaller of two identical Monterey posters produced. 12 1/4? X 21 3/8? With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Recordmecca’s clients include the Smithsonian Institution, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Museum of Pop Culture (formerly Experience Music Project,) the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold was named by Rolling Stone as one of 5 Top Collectors of High-End Music Memorabilia. He authenticated previously unknown Bob Dylan manuscripts for PBS’s History Detectives, appeared as a featured appraiser on VH1’s Rock Collectors, and has been profiled as a top dealer and collector in the books Vinyl Junkies and Retromania: Pop Culture’s Addiction to it’s Own Past. Gold is author of the acclaimed books Sittin’ In: Jazz Clubs of the 1940s and 1950s; Total Chaos: The Story of The Stooges/As Told By Iggy Pop; and 101 Essential Rock Records: The Golden Age of Vinyl a survey of seminal rock albums, featuring contributions from David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Johnny Marr and Graham Nash. Grateful Dead – QSM – Avalon FD-45-1 – First Print Mouse Concert Poster – GREAT. This beautiful Grateful Dead poster was designed by Mouse and Kelley for a January 1967 show at the Avalon Ballroom. The interesting use of fluorescent orange with a Mucha-like central image captivates the viewer. The original print run for these Family Dog posters must have been small, because they rarely show up. The original poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14? X 20? . The gold color on the original is a true gold-brown color. Print Type: Show Edition (SE). Designers: Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley. Size: 14.031″ x 20 3/64″ (35.64 x 50.92 cm). Series: Family Dog (FD). Band: Quicksilver Messenger Service (QMS). One pin hole top center edge, and bottom center edge, plus top left corner. 1/2 tear at top, vertical. Can be hidden with framing. 2 – 1/4 tears on the right side. Some bends in the upper right corner. They are from the collection and due to the sheer volume of records to sell, they are individually un-tested as to playability. This listing comes from the Lone Star Dead Radio estate, of Eric Schwartz. It is something of his. I know that a lot of this memorabilia holds special sentimentality for fans of both the band, and of Eric. I hope that in purchasing this, you take a moment to remember Eric, and do something good and positive in his memory. Let me know if you have any questions.

This first printing poster was printed before the show, time flies but it was over 21 years ago now. Most of our posters are pretty much untouched and this is an example like that. This poster was made in a very small edition, this one was printed before the show and this appears in the Art of Modern Rock. We are here to make people happy, thank you for your business.
