Quality Authentication – Fine Memorabilia. 1967 Quicksilver Messenger Service – Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster Promoter Family Dog. 1967 Quicksilver Messenger Service – Other Half – Melvin Q – Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster by Artist Jack Hatfield Promoter Family Dog. In 1966, a free-spirited rock promoter named Chet Helms teamed up with a bunch of hippies and started putting on some of the greatest rock events of all time. They called their commune/promotions company, The Family Dog. The Family Dog’s weekly dance hall revues gave the local bands a forum to perform their groundbreaking music. It was here in places like the Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom where the philosophies and ideals of a counterculture revolution found their voice. The Avalon Ballroom is a music venue in the Polk Gulch neighborhood of San Francisco, California at 1268 Sutter Street, on the north side, one building east of the corner of Van Ness Avenue. Space operated from 1966 to 1968 and reopened in 2003. Large events include Pagan Fest USA that is held in May. The building that housed the Avalon Ballroom was built in 1911 and was originally called the Colin Traver Academy of Dance. The Avalon was founded by Robert E. Cohen, impresario Chet Helms and his music production company, Family Dog Productions, which had offices on Van Ness. Presented is a concert poster – by High Yo Silver Artist, Jack Hatfield. The poster features Quicksilver Messenger Service, Other Half & Melvin Q. The event was held 8/17-8/20 1967. Overall, it shows considerable aging but is a remarkable art piece.
