Concert Poster by Jermaine Rogers. Is most widely known as one of the leaders in the field of modern rock poster art. This involves the creating and production of promotional poster artwork featuring concerts, musical events, and musical releases by certain rock and roll artists. Jermaine Rogers has created these pieces of advertising since the year 1994. By 1996, due to growing workloads and collectible popularity in this field, Rogers abandoned his secular job to pursue the creation of poster art on a full-time basis. For the last few years, Jermaine has chosen to concentrate more on fine art, design, and other personal pursuits. Jermaine has designed nearly 800 posters for a wide variety of musical acts, including RADIOHEAD, NEIL YOUNG, TOOL, WEEZER, TORI AMOS, DAVID BOWIE, THE DEFTONES, THE MELVINS and literally hundreds of others. 311 (pronounced “three-eleven”) is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. The band was formed in 1988 by vocalist/guitarist Nick Hexum, lead guitarist Jim Watson (who would later be replaced by Tim Mahoney), bassist Aaron “P-Nut” Wills and drummer Chad Sexton. In 1992, Doug “SA” Martinez joined to sing and provide turntables for 311’s later albums, rounding out the current line-up. 311 is generally known as an alternative rock band, but it is also classified as rap rock, rap metal, funk rock, funk metal, reggae and jazz fusion. A common misconception is that 311’s name is a tribute by the band to the Ku Klux Klan, as the letter K is the 11th letter of the alphabet, hence the band’s name, pronounced three-eleven = three K’s = KKK. The band’s name actually originates from the police code for indecent exposure in Omaha, Nebraska, after the original guitarist for the band was arrested for streaking. After a series of independent releases, 311 was signed to Capricorn Records in 1992 and released the albums Music (1993) and Grassroots (1994) to moderate success. They achieved greater success with their 1995 triple platinum self-titled album, which reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of the singles “Down” and “All Mixed Up”, the former of which topped the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996. The band’s next three albums, Transistor (1997), Soundsystem (1999) and From Chaos (2001), did not achieve the massive success of the self-titled album, though they were still successful, with the first going platinum and the last two going gold. Their 2004 compilation album Greatest Hits’93’03 was also certified gold. The band’s most recent studio album is 2011’s Universal Pulse. To date, 311 has released ten studio albums, one live album, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs. Date: Dec 5, 1999. Venue: Numbers, Houston, TX. Dimensions: 23″ x 18″. Ben Folds Five is an alternative rock trio formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The group comprises Ben Folds (lead vocals, piano, keyboards, melodica, principal songwriting), Robert Sledge (bass, contrabass, synthesizer, backing vocals), and Darren Jessee (drums, percussion, backing vocals, songwriter, and co-writer for some songs). The group achieved mainstream success in the alternative, indie and pop music scenes. The band is best known for the hit single “Brick” from their 1997 album Whatever and Ever Amen , which gained airplay on many mainstream radio stations. During their seven years together, the band released three proper studio records, one retrospective album of B-sides and outtakes, and eight singles. They also contributed to a number of soundtracks and compilations. Ben Folds Five disbanded in October 2000, apparently under amicable circumstances. The group reunited for a one-off concert on September 18, 2008, where they played their album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner , in its entirety. In 2011, Ben Folds Five reunited to record three tracks for Ben Folds’ The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective. It was announced on Folds’ Twitter in January 2012 that the band has reunited to record a new album, released on September 18, 2012, titled The Sound of the Life of the Mind. As of March 1 of the same year, at least three tour dates have been added, including the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee, DeLuna Festival in Pensacola, Florida, and the Mountain Jam Festival in Hunter, NY. In July 2012 the band announced US and European tour dates for Fall 2012. Performers: Ben Folds Five. Venue: Numbers Night Club, Houston, TX. Dimensions: 11″ x 17″. Hempfest Seattle Built To Spill Jermaine Rogers Art Chantry concert poster
Signed by designer Art Chantry. Signed and doodled by Jermaine Rogers. The hempfest portion of the poster was also designed by Hank Trotter Sheehan Scott Mcdougall. Check out the back of the poster! A quote from Jermaine’s web site on 10/31/2003 This year is really going by fast. Hopefully you all are doing as well as you can in this world. Well, as for me, you’ve probably noticed that I released the’CASUALTIES’ series that I had been telling you all about. CASUALTIES is actually part of the series of posters for the current BUILT TO SPILL tour. Think of it as sort of a’project-within-a-project’. So, what IS CASUALTIES? Well, it’s a little collaborative effort between myself and poster/design legend Art Chantry. We decided to make a very special type of poster for the Houston date of the BUILT TO SPILL tour. We created a rough’design’, which basically advertised the show in the most simple terms. We then took this design and printed OVER THE TOP of other concert posters. Actual concert posters which we both had in our collections… Some from my catalog, some from Chantry’s, and a few from other artists’ we admire: all of these posters fell as’casualties’ of our little idea. What resulted was a batch of various defaced/enhanced posters… Of various sizes, styles and formats… All containing the same’new’ BUILT TO SPILL image screenprinted over the existing imagery. It was really quite coincidental that Chantry and I had thought of doing something like this at some point in our careers: obviously he had been thinking about it much longer than I had. I had already planned to do something similar to the’CASUALTIES’ project on my own: the idea being to sacrifice many of the older, more sought after and’valuable’ posters that I had done in my career…. Neil Young 99, Radiohead 01, TOOL 98, KMFDM from 95 (the first major band poster Id used my’teddy bear’ character on), etc. I planned to just take a random show, and print it OVER these older, sought after things. Meanwhile, Art had been playing with this idea for years. So, this seemed like the perfect project to have a go… This is why I knew I would use some of the more valuable things I had done. Remember, in this project… Most of the pieces are pieces by Art and I… And are very’collectible’ pieces, some of them. We’X’d’ ourselves FIRST and FOREMOST. We are no different from any of the other artists in the concert poster field. I personally wanted to see just HOW people would aesthetically and financially assign value to something that had been drastically altered. If we printed over one of Chantry’s early’Garageshock’ posters… Or over one of my RADIOHEAD posters from 2001… Would it still be worth what it was? Would it now be worth more? Or had our defacing it drastically devalued the poster? Or was it now a totally NEW piece… And therefore, it needed to acquire value all on it’s own? I also wanted to test something out. Ive heard from so many folks in the concert poster arena that what we do is NOT’art’… It’s advertising. Some feel that these posters are true’ephmera’… Folks wont even care about them years from now. They are simply ADS. Well, Ive always begged to differ… And after this project, Im more resolute in my stand. Obviously, by some of the reactions from other artists in the field, they’re a heck of a lot more than just’ads’. Some of our colleagues’ reactions were as if we had drawn devil horns on the’Mona Lisa’. My point is that this is EXACTLY the reaction they should have. I dont just’make ADS’. I try to make thoughtful, breathing ART. The majority of poster artists working today are NOT just pitchmen. And their posters are ART. And the best way to demonstrate this was to sacrifice some of their beautiful work. You may say that Im full-of-it, here… This was a’props’ to the artists we used. Thats why I wanted to call this’casualties’. Like soldiers slain in battle for the bigger’idea’. Mostly MINE and ART’s, along with a few others, were’sacrificed’ to make several’points’. Some of the artists whose work we used were Frank Kozik, Jay Ryan, and EMEK, among others. Sacrifices for the’idea’. And on an idea like this, you have to go all the way…. As for using the teddy bear… Believe me, that was not’accidental’. Of course it was ugly. It HAD to be. We werent trying to make a’beautiful’ piece of art. The’art’ is in the idea. Look deeper than the paper. What’s amazing is the response. Now, in the artists community… Theres folks who say’brilliant’ and folks who say’whatever’. On the other hand, collectors are NUTS over it. Ive gotten these very eloquent dissertations from poster fans on why they felt this was important and were glad we did it. Ive also heard,’What has this got to do with Built To Spill? Well, put it this way: -The posters were used to promote this show. They spent half an hour trying to choose which ones they wanted for themselves. The fans at the show (the ones whom would easily spot something that has NOTHING to do with the band theyve just paid to see) bought every single poster. Its just a poster. These posters were created using valuable pre-existing posters with the new BTS imagery printed over them. The sizes range from 16×14 to 36×25 inches. Nobody was able to choose the underlying print. A total of about 300 of these posters were printed. They were signed but not numbered. 10 copies were given to the band. 25 copies were hung up around town, in promotion. 176 signed and numbered copies are available for sale to collector, the first is numbered zero/176. An additional 15 or 20 posters were printed for Jermaine and Art Chantry’s personal collection. There are a few odd ones as well 2 or 3’right-side-up’ prints several white/no-green prints for X highlights the #0/175 a #00/175 bizarro print… The free listing tool. This involves the creating and production of promotional poster artwork featuring concerts, musical events, and musical releases. The White Stripes were an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of Jack White and Meg White. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful and critically acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom, with the single “Seven Nation Army” and its now-iconic guitar line becoming a huge hit. The band recorded two more albums, Get Behind Me Satan in 2005 and Icky Thump in 2007, and dissolved in 2011 after a lengthy hiatus from performing and recording. The Greenhornes are an American garage rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Craig Fox, bass guitarist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler. They released their debut album Gun For You in 1999, followed by a self-titled album in 2001. A third studio album, Dual Mono, was released in 2002, with the band taking a small hiatus. During this time, Lawrence and Keeler formed The Raconteurs with Detroit musicians and personal friends Jack White and Brendan Benson, leaving very few performances and interaction with Fox. In 2010, the band reunited once again to record a studio album, Four Stars, their first in eight years. Young Heart Attack are a high-energy rock band from Austin, Texas, that formed in 2001.
