There is a printing imperfection, a tiny black dot in the top left corner, and otherwise this is without issues. Monterey Pop’ was arguably the most important music festival ever, featuring the first US appearance of Jimi Hendrix, as well as Janis Joplin with Big Brother, the Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and so many more. The 2002 Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festivak. June 28, 29, 30, 2002. Black Oak Ranch, Laytonville, California. This festival benefited the Seva Foundation amongst others. 11 x 17 inches. This original first printing poster was printed before the show and is near mint despite being taken down after being briefly displayed. It is signed very lightly and dated. This was from the personal collection of Paul Williams who was a lifelong Memphian & Memphis music historian spanning all genres, in particular the blues band NRBQ. Paul owned AUDIOMANIA Records in Midtown Memphis, which was a local record hot-spot for 33 years. He also had his own radio show on WEVL here in Memphis and that ran for 43 years. As a younger man, he was an usher at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco during the late 70’s, when every rock-n-roll icon of the time was performing there nightly, he was even lucky enough to attend Bob Dylan’s two-week run of shows in 1979! After coming back to Memphis he worked at record Mecca, Pop Tunes, before opening Audiomania. Everything listed here from Paul, was either in his shop or in his personal collection at home. This is an authentic used Concert Poster from 1st ever Memphis Beale Street Music Festival (Memphis in May) in downtown Memphis! This is from its inaugural year of 1977, a concert series that is still going strong today! This is 17×24 made of poster paper. AMERICAN FOLK BLUES FESTIVAL’65. And highly collectible original first printing concert poster designed to promote the “American Folk Blues Festival” October 1965 European package tour, presented by Lippmann+Rau. Performing artists included Big Mama Thornton, Lonesome Jimmy Lee, Eddie Boyd, Buddy Guy, Doctor Ross, Freddie Below, J. Lenoir, Big Shakey Horton, Roosevelt Sykes, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. It was legendary German promoters Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau who were responsible for the festival since its start back in 1962 where they stuck upon the idea of bringing a cross section of American blues musicians to Europe for a package tour. Dubbed “The American Folk Blues Festival, ” the shows were a major success and played a vital role in exposing American roots music to a new and appreciative audience abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, where the concerts proved to be a significant eye-opener for the founding members of the British blues-rock boom. Lippman and Rau turned the tour into an annual event and, fortunately, arranged for their artists to appear on a series of television specials recorded for German television. The poster features delicate graphic artwork by Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the lower right side border. The poster measures 60.0 x 84.3 cm approx. 23.6? By 33.2? Inches and is beautifully printed in multi-color on thin, uncoated paper stock.
